About Google Play Publication

Google Play is the largest Android app store with an audience of more than 2.5 billion users. Publishing on Google Play opens access to the global market, but requires following many rules and technical requirements. We handle the entire publication process: from creating a developer account to successfully passing moderation and appearing in search.

The first step is creating a developer account in Google Play Console—a one-time $25 payment, after which you can publish unlimited applications. The account can be for an individual or an organization—we recommend the latter for business applications. We help fill in all necessary data including company information and user contact details.

App Store Listing directly affects conversion to installs. We create attractive screenshots showcasing key app features at all required resolutions. We write a selling description with keywords for ASO (App Store Optimization). We prepare promotional graphics: icon, feature graphic, promo video if needed. All texts are translated for target market languages.

Technical app preparation includes building in Android App Bundle (AAB) format, signing with the release key, and setting up versioning. We fill in the Content Rating Questionnaire, set up the privacy policy, advertising declaration, and app permissions. If the app contains purchases or subscriptions, we integrate Google Play Billing and configure products in the console.

Google Play moderation usually takes from a few hours to 7 days. We know typical rejection reasons and eliminate potential problems in advance: privacy policy violations, insufficient permissions, content issues. After successful publication we set up statistics, review, and crash tracking through Google Play Console. We help respond to user reviews and plan updates to maintain a high app rating.

History of Google Play

Google Play history began on October 22, 2008, simultaneously with the launch of the first Android smartphone, the HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1). The store was called Android Market and offered about 35 free apps—paid ones appeared later. Unlike the App Store, Android Market positioned itself as an open platform: Google checked apps automatically, without manual moderation.

The early years of Android Market were a period of rapid growth. By December 2009 the store had 20,000 apps, by 2011 already 250,000. In 2012 Google merged Android Market, Google Music, and Google eBookstore into a single Google Play Store. The web version of Google Play allowed remote app installation on devices.

The mid-2010s brought major policy changes. Google tightened moderation after malware scandals: automatic Google Play Protect scanning, permission policy checks, anti-copying policy. Requirements appeared for target API level, privacy policy, content rating. Android App Bundle (AAB) replaced APK as the primary format.

Monetization evolved from simple paid apps to complex models. In-app purchases and subscriptions became the primary revenue source. Google Play Billing provided a standardized payment API with a mandatory 30% commission (15% for subscriptions after a year and for small businesses). Play Pass (2019)—a subscription service with access to premium apps—became the answer to Apple Arcade.

Today Google Play is the world's largest app store by number of apps (over 3.5 million) and downloads. More than 100 billion apps are downloaded from Google Play annually. Play Console provides powerful tools: A/B testing of store pages, staged rollouts, pre-launch reports, detailed analytics. Despite the emergence of alternatives like Huawei AppGallery, Google Play remains the main Android distribution channel.
